Chevy Chase and Bill Murray are no strangers to headline-making moments –– but their reunion at the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary after party on Saturday, February 15 stole the show for some fans.
For decades, these two comedic legends have been at the center of a feud that started in the late ’70s, during the time they were original cast members on the show. But it seems time has healed old wounds, as a photo of the two actors at the event was shared to Chase’s Instagram the following day.
The tension between the SNL alums began in 1978, during Chase’s first stint hosting the show. According to Chase, 81, things got nearly physical after Murray, 74, allegedly made an offhand remark about his marriage to Jacqueline Carlin. “Billy Murray and I came to fisticuffs, but we never really ended up hitting each other,” he told Esquire in a 2010 interview. “We tried, but Belushi got in the middle and we both ended up hitting John. And if anybody deserved to be slapped in the forehead, it was John for instigating it all,” he stated, referring to late SNL costar John Belushi.

Fast forward to an SNL50 afterparty in New York City, and the two posed side by side with the National Lampoon’s Vacation actor’s arm around Murray’s shoulder, smiling for the camera – a photo that fans couldn’t get enough of.
“Quite the cast! Good to see you with Bill and Eddie,” one fan commented, referring to another photo shared of Chase and Eddie Murphy.
“Classic picture of you Chevy and Bill!!,” another agreed, while a third said, “The Bill Murray pic
During the special, the Groundhog Day alum made an appearance on the “Weekend Update” segment where he humorously acknowledged Chase’s significant impact on the show. “Next up, Cornelius Crane Chase, who we’ve all come to know as Conny,” he started off, before admitting, “‘Weekend Update’ would simply not exist without him, so it would be wrong to have him listed anywhere but… No. 4.”
Though Chase has been vocal about his criticisms of SNL in recent years – especially the show’s current state which he slammed in a 2018 Washington Post interview – he still celebrated the special night with other alumni from the late night show. His Instagram post also featured photos with Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Adam Sandler, David Spade, and more.
